"When we dead awaken, we see that we have never lived."

THE PLAY - written at the dawn of the 20th century, Ibsen’s final and famously unyielding play stares out at us with the feverishness of an artist looking death in the eye and laughing. Ibsen’s symbolist psychodrama is full of dark brushstrokes and ironic flourishes: a frenetic attempt to balance realism with romanticism. Les Foules adapts and deconstructs this work and refocuses it to concentrate on contemporary approaches to art, love, and work, whilst displacing the dominating male gaze. Les Foules draws on corporeal mime, sculpture and performance art to mould one of Ibsen’s most elemental and strange creations.
